This month through September, we are pleased to show works by artist David Welch. A native of Wilmington, NC, David is on a never-ending journey of self discovery as an expression of his inner creative spirit. He began as a child sketching anything and everything with pencil, then moving into pen and ink comic book character design. As a teenager, he became fascinated with clay sculpting and charcoal portraits.

Over time, David has showcased his works in media such as character design for animated film shorts and comics as well as several murals including one featured at the NC School of Communication Arts to honor the families affected by the 911 attacks.

“I loved the creative expression that art allowed me to have no matter what medium was available. No rules just the quiet bliss of my imagination.”

David now lives in Sanford, NC with his wife, Karen and sons, Gabriel and Israel. For more info visit http://www.daggerroom.com/jdwelch/ or email David at:jdwelchideastolife@gmail.com

Each piece is individually custom handcrafted with birch or oak so you are guaranteed that your piece will be a “one-of-a-kind”.

Richard’s works will be on display and for sale at Studio 180 Salon starting in April, 2010 and we will be hosting an artist reception on Friday, April 30th 6-9pm.

A Walk in the Garden by Faye Silliman

A Walk in the Garden by Faye Silliman

You know what they say – the third time is usually the charm. After being blessed with so much snow, we are finally going to celebrate the opening of Faye Silliman’s show at Studio 180 Salon! Please join us this Friday from 6-9pm for the Cary Art Loop’s Final Friday crawl and support the arts in our community. Frosty is going to have to sit this one out!

This month through April, we are pleased to show works by Faye Silliman. Faye is a local artist, albeit a bit of a world traveler. Her background played an extensive role in creating her broad artistic vision – due in part to her father’s military career and her nomadic lifestyle, which continued throughout her adult life.

Early childhood years were spent living on the edge of the jungle in Panama. Her family frequently boated throughout the Caribbean – especially to Trinidad and neighboring islands. In later years, she lived in Europe.

The colorful tropical influences, diverse cultures, and Asian furnishings that filled her childhood home, add a definite flavor to her paintings. Faye’s creative spirit was always there gathering notes as she found her way back to her native home in North Carolina. Her works are true reflections of rich and unique cultural influences.

“Painting is like breathing to me – unconscious and necessary.”

Faye’s paintings are currently on display and for sale at Studio 180 Salon and we will be hosting an artist reception on Friday, February 26th 6-9pm.

This month through September we are pleased to show works by Dianna Wyatt.  Dianna has always used art as a personal pursuit for understanding.  Working in mixed media, she delves into concepts and ideas.  The approach to each piece can be quite different.  In some pieces she will work in subtle layering washes to build a hazy universe.  Other works can be violently chipped away out, only to be smoothed down once a conclusion has been reached.  Most of her works are an attempt to work through ideas involving creation, emotion, and questions of existence.

In addition to painting, Dianna is also a metal smith.  All of her pieces are hand fabricated; no casting is involved.  This makes each piece unique unto itself.  She especially enjoys making wedding/ commitment rings for couples, and feels that the circle is a strong symbol which is often a shape tied into her paintings.

Dianna’s paintings are currently on display and for sale at Studio 180 Salon and we will be hosting an artist reception on Friday, August 28th 6-9pm.
